The product is Cooee TimberTreat, and is attracting
amazing interest in Australia
and overseas. Invented and produced on the Sunshine Coast,
the Cooee range of products uses a totally new approach to solving problems
in the construction, medical, marine and agricultural industries.
Instead of using toxic chemicals to kill or repel
threats to timber, TimberTreat uses two protection principles –
waterproofing with a deeply penetrating waxy emulsion, combined with low
dose antimicrobial and anti-mould delivery. The timber is not poisoned;
rather it becomes unattractive and indigestible to microscopic organisms.

TimberTreat is the modern natural timber finish that is
environmentally friendly.
The TimberTreat range includes a Pre-treatment
(primer), Natural that allows the timber to naturally age and grey, and 5
popular timber colours specially designed to provide UV protection. When
Natural is applied over Pre-treatment, greying is inhibited, and preserves
that natural timber look for longer.
An application for TimberTreat to be registered with the APVMA (Australian
Pesticides & Veterinary Medicines Authority) has been submitted.
Why Use TimberTreat?
a)
Safety: TimberTreat has Organic Certification, ie. it has approval to
be used on timber in organic farming environments, both in ground and above
ground. Several councils in South East Queensland have switched to
TimberTreat as their protection system for timber benches, shelters etc due
to its safety, ease of use, performance and cost savings in labour to
re-apply. Since CCA was removed from domestic uses in the USA, there
has been awareness of the dangers of chemicals leaching from timber, both
to people and the environment. TimberTreat is widely used to lock in the
toxic chemicals, preventing them from leaching out. This is especially
important in playground equipment made with treated pine logs. How many
carpenters have been affected by fumes from LOSP treated framing, and how
many have had red rashes due to contact with LOSP treated timber.
Contractors such as fencers and retaining wall erectors handle CCA treated
timber constantly. High arsenic levels in these people can be expected if
gloves and face masks are not worn.
b)
Performance: Tests conducted over the past 2 years indicate TimberTreat
may have success in preventing timber from being damaged by termites.
Pre-treatment protects the surface of the timber from damage by microbes.
c)
Economy: Low initial purchase price, long life and ease of
re-application make TimberTreat
