Gate Frames

We stock & recommend Instagate brand steel gate frames.

Instagate - the gate fencers recommend

Single Gate Frames

What is a single gate frame?

Some bright sparky said it is a gate frame that is not married.

Some chirpy chippy said it is one with disposable income and a social life.

My wife said I had better shut up before it applies to me too!! (minus the disposable income)

Between all three, they agree that quality is no joke.

No, what is a single gate frame, really?

A single gate frame is a complete unit.

As the name suggests it is a sole complete unit & not one of a pair.

A pre-made gate frame is a cheap and efficient solution.

It includes the following as standard:

30mm galvanised square tube frame

Welded joints. Not flimsy screws like kit frames.

Welds are ground flat & painted with metal primer

1 x pad bolt.

1 x provision for ring latch

1 x provision for hand hole.

1 x set of extension legs to allow for a plinth board

Single gates are available in either Hinged LHB or RHB

What does LHB or RHB mean?

         LHB = Left Hand Back

         RHB = Right Hand Back

What is the back of a gate?

·         Looking at the outwards or cladded face, the back is the side without cladding. So, standing at the back, it will swing towards you.

·         This means, standing at the back, a LHB will be hinged on the left and, open towards you on the right.

·         RHB is of course the opposite to LHB

·         If you want the gate to open away from you as you stand at the back, you should order a RHF or LHF gate

What does LHF or RHF mean?

         LHF = Left Hand Front

            RHF = Right Hand Front

What is the front of a gate?

·         The front is the opposite of the back. Unless you are at the back, then the back could be the front and the front the back.

·         Generally the front is the cladded side.

·         If you want the gate to open towards you as you stand at the front, you will order a RHF or LHF gate

Double Gate Frames

  • These are like single gate frames, except they are a pair.
  • Usually, they are used for driveways or laneways.
  • Double gate frames are set up so that one of the gates can be fixed, while the other is used for pedestrian access.
  • A drop bolt is used to fix a gates in the middle so that the wind does not blow them open

Stock double gates are generally designed to open as would a single gate.

There may be situations where the ground is sloping. In such situation it is required to use rising hinges. These need to be site measured and are at an extra cost

Quiz Answer

The answer to the meaning of life, oh sorry, the quiz question is either “a” or “d”.

It would be purchased as a LHB, as this is the stocked item, but all you need to do is pivot it around & it is magically a RHF. Confused? So am I.
