Pickets
Over the years, we have tried many
different manufacturers of pickets.
We have found one thing holds true with
pickets; the cheaper the price - the cheaper the quality. There are no bargain pickets available!
We have found an excellent supplier that
has less than a 2% wastage factor in a pack of pickets. This means that in a pack of 250 you would
expect no more than 4 or 5 “dud” pickets. We have bought from alternate
suppliers and had waste factors as high as 50%! You get what you pay for!
This means you can buy pickets from us, knowing
that you will be able to use them all. Timber is timber and not totally
perfect, but we will replace any pickets that we consider are unusable.
The following are some popular picket
profiles available;

The most
popular pickets are the plain top (blanks) and the Windsor style.
We keep both
these styles in stock
Prices are as

Why not hardwood
rails?
Well, for 2 reasons:
1.
Quality
Good
hardwood is getting harder to find. 90% of all hardwood mills have closed. The mills left remaining
are more interested in producing
high quality KD hardwood, not low quality OBHW.
2.
Correct
Application
·
Most of the
hardwood rails are produced from mountain ash.
·
This is at
best a moderate durability hardwood.
·
It is ideal
for interior applications with its true grain & light weight.
3.
Durability
·
Mountain Ash
will start degrading in 3 to 5 years when exposed to the weather & not
protected by an oil based sealant.
·
The rails
will start to degrade.
·
The nails
will fail to hold
·
The palings
will pop off
·
Your fence
will fall apart.
·
This
is after only 5 - 10 years!

Notice that the posts & palings are still in good condition
Rural wire
Rural wire is also known as farm fencing.
It usually constructed of post and wire. Normally the posts are treated
pine poles. The wire is usually galvanised. It can either be barbed, woven
or plain strand.
This type of fencing is in many ways a
symbol of Australian culture.

Fencing Hints.

We do not stock this type of fencing. We
can however order any product into stock within 2 – 3 days. We can
recommend a fencing contractor to complete your project if required

Federation Wire
Federation wire is called as such because
it was a popular wire fencing used at the time of federation. It has a
rustic but structured feel – uniquely Australian. It is very popular with
older style houses and particularly suits a cottage garden.

The
core wire is galvanised and coated in coloured PVC in either
forest green or cream.
