Brush Fence Panels
What are Brush Fence Panels?
Brush fence panels are generally
assembled from natural melaleuca branches. Our premium product is
Australian made and is constructed as follows:
- Branches are bundled in an even thickness across an assembly
table.
- Galvanised wires are fitted to hold the panels together.
- Panels are made 1800mm long for ease of handling.
- Nominal thickness is 50mm
- Wire spacing allows the panels to be cut at 750 or 900mm in
height.
- The ends are then docked to length.
- Standard height is 1800mm. Also available in 1500mm.
What are the benefits?
Brush fencing has a number of
benefits.
You could say it is the AAA
of fencing!
- Acoustic
benefits. It will absorb road noise far more efficiently than a
standard paling fence.
- Airflow.
Acts as an effective windbreak.
- Aesthetics. It ages gracefully and softens any
outlook. The grey and brown tones remind me of seaside holiday house.
There is nothing that looks more natural than brush fencing.
Are they sustainably grown?
Brush fencing is a renewable
resource unlike steel, concrete or plastic.
- It grows on trees! It is made from the branches of native
Melaleuca.
- It is harvested much like a crop of herbs. The branches are cut
leaving the living plant.
- It is harvested from Government licensed sources under a quota
system.
How are they fitted?
According to our supplier -
The density of the panel allows
for various fixing methods to be used from screwing panels direct to timber,
post and rails, clipping to strained wires or fitting into a metal U frame
system. All brush fences should always have a capping to protect the
exposed top of the panel whether this is a metal, timber or brush roll cap is a matter of personal
choice.
We recommend that a post, rail & plinth board construction
is used.
Rails.
75 x 50 or 70 x 45 EcoWood treated pine. We recommend the use
of 3 rails to sufficiently support an 1800mm high panel.
Plinth.
Ideally use an EcoWood sleeper 200 x 50 is OK, but 200 x
75mm is ideal.
Capping
There are a number of options. The 2 most popular are:
- Roll caps
- These
are made of the brush material.
- They
are wired to the top of the panel.
- There
is a waiting period to order roll caps.
- Roll
caps can be made from a standard sheet cut up.
- Timber
capping
- Standard
lipped fence capping can be used. This will leave a slight quirk or
deficiency at the rail side of the fence. The capping rebate is
approximately 70mm, so there will be a 30mm shortfall.
- Custom
capping. We stock a double lipped capping which is also used for
acoustic fencing. This is ex 140 x 45, so it will actually hang over
a little either side. Alternatively it can be trimmed to suit.

Interesting Facts:
There are three types of brush fencing:
- The good
stuff. Premium quality.
- The reasonably
good stuff. Trade Quality.
- The
rubbish. Discount junk.
We only sell type 1 or 2.
We suggest you go to the big green shed
or a $3 shop, if you want to buy type 3.
The following is a true story:
We recently had a customer come to our
yard that had purchased some of the $25.00 roll budget stuff from you know
where. He said that it fell apart after 3 months. The wire was too thin
and it rusted apart. There is less wire, it is also a thinner gauge &
there is also 25% less brush.
This proves one thing the cheapest is
usually not the best, but can also be a 100% waste of money.
So next time, think beyond the price
look at the overall value for money
